LARKANA: The hunters have come out once again to hunt Siberian birds migrating to Pakistani areas, and sell them on exorbitant rates in open markets.
There are so many famous lakes in Kambar-Shahdadkot district including Langh Lake, Drigh Lake, Saroh Lake and Hamal Lake where these birds reach after flying thousands of miles.
The rates for each category of the bird range from Rs 800 to 1500 per piece depending upon their weight. These migratory birds start arriving here in early September.
A trader of these birds told reporters here on Sunday that after bargaining with Game Warden they start hunting these birds via strong nets at the said lakes.
And when birds are caught, he added, their legs and wings are usually found broken but they are dumped into gunny bags to be sold in the market.
He said when media flash stories about this the Game Warden imposes fine of Rs 1000 to Rs 3000 on them to save his own skin and then a report is sent to higher authorities after which everything comes to a standstill.
“So far this practice has been very successful as higher authorities have never tried to find the truth,” he added. On the other hand World Wildlife Fund or even Sindh Wildlife Department has taken no concrete steps to save these birds.
